The Share
Once upon a time, we chose what to eat according to the season and locale as much as preference. And then they invented the iceberg lettuce and the refrigerated boxcar and we learned to eat just about anything from just about anywhere just about any time.
For all the convenience we have gained, we have paid in freshness, flavor and fast disappearing farmland. We can, however, regain what we lost when we abandoned farms for supermarkets by participating in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). By joining a CSA, you establish a direct link with your farmer and play a vital role in supporting the local, responsible production of your food. You and your grower share the rewards of farming: the grower receives your support and you receive the fruits and vegetables of his labor.
Membership in The Alleged Farm CSA provides you with enough fresh produce to feed a small family over the course of a whole growing season—and at a remarkably reasonable price. Shareholders receive a weekly delivery every Thursday from the middle of June through early November. The contents of each week’s bag depends on what is at its peak that week. In June you might get lettuce, radishes, kohlrabi, turnips, beet greens, broccoli and dill. An August delivery could bring zucchini, beans, beets, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and basil. Your October bag might hold leeks, bok choi, carrots, winter squash, potatoes, shallots and sage.
No matter what time of year, we aim to provide a broad array of crops each week. We grow more than forty-five vegetables and fifteen different herbs. We choose varieties that look and taste good, and we take pleasure in offering an array of vegetables you will not find in a grocery store such as Rose de Berne tomatoes, Galisse oakleaf lettuce, Pink Passion chard and Kinbi yellow carrots.
Every week members also receive a newsletter with news from the farm, recipes, storage tips and the musings of a tired farmer. We encourage members to visit the farm during the season, and we host a number of work days for members who want to not only see the farm but experience--for a couple of hours—the joys of farm work.

Pastured Meat and Poultry
We work with Lewis-Waite Farm, located just north of us in the town of Jackson, to offer our members pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb and chicken. The animals are all raised in small flocks without the use of hormones and antibiotics and are given free access to the outdoors. Members place their orders for meat directly with Lewis-Waite Farm on the internet or by phone, and the first Thursday of every month we deliver our members' orders to our drop off sites. Orders are shipped frozen and packed in insulated cartons. To find out more about the meat visit Lewiswaitefarm.com.
